LOW SLOPE & FLAT ROOFING IN ANCHORAGE
We are highly skilled in all low slope roofing applications, including single-ply membranes such as EPDM (rubber), PVC, and TPO, and torch applied APP membranes. There is not a one size fits all approach when selecting a membrane for a flat or low sloped roof. We will guide you in selecting the best roofing system for your property.
SINGLE-PLY ROOFING
Single-ply membranes come in two main types: thermoplastic and thermoset.
Thermoplastic materials can be softened and hardened through heating and cooling cycles, whereas thermoset materials solidify irreversibly when heated.
These membranes are known by chemical acronyms like EPDM, PVC, and TPO.
Reinforcement layers are sometimes added to single-ply membranes, such as polyester fabrics, glass fiber, or felt backing.
The thickness of a finished sheet is typically measured in mils, where 1 mil equals 0.001 inch.
Installation methods for single-ply membranes can include fully adhered, mechanically attached, or held down with ballast.
Most single-ply roof systems do not have surfacing.
Often, a combination of attachment methods is employed to secure a roof system, like mechanically attaching insulation to the substrate while fully adhering the roof membrane to the insulation.
MODIFIED BITUMEN ROOFING
Modified bitumen roofing, a type of low-slope roofing material, earns its name from the addition of modifiers to standard roofing asphalt to compensate for the plasticizers removed during the distillation process. The bitumen is then strengthened with fiberglass or polyester fiber matting to boost its longevity and robustness.
The APP (attactic polypropylene) modified bitumen roof system is applied using the torch method, leveraging the APP modification to enhance the roof system's durability. This system can be reinforced with either glass or polyester, offering various benefits. For instance, the factory-manufactured rolls ensure quality control, and the system can adapt to the building's movement.
A modified bitumen roof system is adaptable, with the flexibility to incorporate different surfaces that improve its resilience against oxidation and UV damage.
APER SYSTEMS ON FLAT ROOFS
Ensuring a safe and long-lasting roof requires adequate drainage. Water buildup and freeze-thaw cycles can result in costly repairs and premature roof damage, often not covered by warranties or insurance. Installing sloped roof systems decreases maintenance requirements and lessens pressure on the building's structure. We will evaluate the need for a taper system and provide guidance to the property owner.
